ice stare by Gonzale ice stare by Gonzale
this evening, we (with other ';pacifists' and photographers and people, about a 100) were surrounded by twice as much cops.
they arrested people amongst us bit by bit. including photographers who didn't have a press card.
after 2 hours of waiting in the cold, i was allowed to go.
other photos from today's protest to come. later.

wow, thats kind of frightening. I really like how the front officer is glancing over at the viewer- makes it really intense.

ah merci M.Sarkozy :fork:

This is my favourite pic of all. The stop sign is a wee extra to the whole thing. The shine of their helmets; the way his face is obscured by the shield mesh, but his eye is watching you with a steely look - all give character to an already great photo.

Very unique, and really good.

On another note: The biggest mistake that the police make in these situations is to hem in those who are causing no trouble, and to make them wait for hours till a situation 'diffuses' - all it takes is for a few to turn violent (which isn't that unbelievable when you're surrounded with such aggression) - it's also totally illegal in Scotland to do this... you've committed no crime; you should not be held against your will without any reasons given or being charged; the police get away with murder in these situations in the interest of 'security'.

See, now this annoys the hell out of me. Press cards? Excuse me? This isn't a private fucking event. This is in public damnit! I don't need no stinkin press card.

Fuck off and die, government.

excellent photo. I am surprised that it is in France, but as an American, our reports on international events is very lacking. I just find it depressing in this photo that governments will use some many polices officers to surpress so few pacifist protesters who are trying to have their voices heard.

it is a sad world we live in.

The only question is if we are puppets after all, if this is not our war. Still, I believe the French are doing something much more courageous than what we've been doing for years.
